Hamour Doesn’t Leave the Cubicle (هامور لا يغادر المكتب) -
Spencer was employed as the Sound Designer for a Theatre production “Hamour Does not Leave the Cubicle”.
The play written and performed in Arabic uses satire to highlight the absurd bureaucracy of the workplace.
Spencer's role was to compose, record, and edit, original soundscapes, sound effects, and voiceovers for the production. This involved working collaboratively with the Director, Cast, and Creative Team to ensure sound, lighting, dialogue, and choreography have a symbiosis that creates an emotional and dramatic connection for the audience. Using “Q lab” software Spencer also programmed and operated the Sound and Video cues during the performance.
The show premiered at NYU Abu Dhabi’s Black Box Theatre on 18th and 19th October 2024, and there are plans for the production to tour in the UAE and Internationally.
The short video below includes an insight into Spencer's creative process and the performances at NYUAD and is accompanied by one of the soundscapes Spencer composed, recorded, and edited for the production.
