Inside - A Dialogue in Movement, Space, Material, and Sound
February to April 2025 (An Ongoing Long Term Project)
The Project is a long-term experimental collaborative Project with Architect Tania Ursomazo and Choreographer Ksenija Kovac-Romano that fuses Movement, Space, Material, and Sound.
Spencer developed the 20-minute 6-movement Soundscape for this Project.
The soundscape was developed using the voices and sounds created by the Dancers/ Performers/ Collaborators, plus field sounds recorded using a Mix Pre 3 and a variety of microphones ( Sennheiser MKH 50 P48, DPA 40 Omni mic) Lom Geophone, & Electromagnetic Coil (@ Jez Riley French), Additional sounds were composed on a Synthesiser.
The first Iteration of the project performed at @baytalmamzar on 12th and 13th April as part of "Cycles of Change" happening . Cycles of Change," (Bayt Al Mazar in Dubai) was a happening that transformed and activated the space in real time with seven different performances fusing movement, sound, video, and opera.

ABU DHABI PUBLIC ART BIENNALE 2024/2025
An Offer from the Desert - Sound Installation

Spencer was invited along with ten other United Arab Emirates based artists by the Artist Kabir Mohanty to record, compose and produce memories in the form of sound compositions which are relevant to our experiences of living in the United Arab Emirates.
Mohanty was commissioned to develop the Project for the Abu Dhabi Public Art Biennial 2024/2025 which is an outdoor Installation of 27 “Genelec” speakers installed in Umm Al Emarat park playing threads of individual artists and ambient sounds on each speaker.
.The Abu Dhabi Public Art Biennial consists of 70 international and UAE-based artists creating site-specific installations in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain under the Biennial theme, Public Matter including an Installation by Allora and Calzadilla and Khalil Rabah.
Spencer produced two sonic compositions "Please Leave in Silence" and "The Dust of the Forgotten"that were broadcast on 2 of the 28 speakers in the sound Installation .
Spencer also had a support role in the installation and care of the work. In July 2024 Spencer spent a week as a guide and assistant to Mohanty in “The Empty Quarter Desert” in the UAE recording ambient sounds of the desert that were also included in the Installation.
The Video below "The Dust of the Forgotten" is Spencer Sonic Composition included in the Installation. Spencer produced the Short Film to accompany the Sonic composition outside of the project.

Hamour Doesn’t Leave the Cubicle (هامور لا يغادر المكتب)
June to November 2024
Spencer was employed as the Sound Designer for a Theatre production “Hamour Does not Leave the Cubicle”.
The play written and performed in Arabic uses satire to highlight the absurd bureaucracy of the workplace.
Spencer's role was to compose, record, and edit, original soundscapes, sound effects, and voiceovers for the production. This involved working collaboratively with the Director, Cast, and Creative Team to ensure sound, lighting, dialogue, and choreography have a symbiosis that creates an emotional and dramatic connection for the audience. Using “Q lab” software Spencer also programmed and operated the Sound and Video cues during the performance.
The show premiered at NYU Abu Dhabi’s Black Box Theatre on 18th and 19th October 2024, and there are plans for the production to tour in the UAE and Internationally.

GUGGENHEIM ABU DHABI VISITING ARTIST PROGRAMME

Spencer was invited along with eight other United Arab Emirates based artists by the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi to collaborate and work closely with Artist Kabir Mohanty and sound engineer/ composer Vikram Joglekar to record, compose and produce memories in the form of sound compositions which are relevant to our experiences of living in the United Arab Emirates.
